Glastonbury tickets secured. Three adults. One Ford Focus. Mountains of festival gear. Houston, we have a problem. Enter: the roof box solution that saved our festival weekend.
The Festival Packing Reality
Festival camping requires SO much stuff: tent, sleeping bags, wellies, changes of clothes (it WILL rain), chairs, portable speakers, camping stove, food, drinks, gazebo, and about 47 "just in case" items.
Our Focus boot? Optimistic capacity for maybe half of this. The back seats? We still needed those for people!
The Solution: 320L Roof Box
Rented a medium box from Birmingham (£30 for the week—cheaper than trying to rent festival gear on-site!). Packed Thursday evening:
- 2 tents (3-person and 2-person)
- 3 sleeping bags and mats
- All our extra clothing
- Camping chairs
- Gazebo canopy
- Dry clothes for going home!
Car boot had: cookware, food, drinks, and wellies. Back seats: comfortable humans. Perfection.
The Festival Experience
Arrived Wednesday (avoid Thursday chaos—pro tip). Security checked the car but barely glanced at the roof box. Set up camp in under an hour because everything was organized and accessible.
The real MVP moment: Sunday morning, packing up in the rain. Everyone else struggling with wet tents and muddy gear in their cars. Us? Wet tent rolled up, straight into the roof box. Car interior stayed clean and dry for the journey home.
Festival Roof Box Tips
- Bring extra plastic bags: For wet/muddy items on return
- Pack clean clothes separately: You'll want them for the drive home
- Keep valuables in car: Never in the roof box
- Lock it: Festival sites are generally safe, but better safe than sorry
Festival season is coming. Get your roof box sorted early—they rent out fast in June!
