The Lake District is perfect for Birmingham families—close enough for a long weekend, beautiful enough to feel like a proper escape. Here's our tested 3-day itinerary that works brilliantly with kids.

Friday Evening: The Setup

3:30 PM: Pick up kids from school (excitement levels: maximum)
4:00 PM: Leave Birmingham, miss rush hour
6:30 PM: Arrive campsite near Windermere
7:00 PM: Camp setup (easy with roof box—everything organized)
8:00 PM: Dinner at campsite
9:00 PM: Lakeside walk before bed

Saturday: Adventure Day

9:00 AM: Windermere lake cruise (book ahead!)
12:00 PM: Lakeside lunch
2:00 PM: Beatrix Potter World (kids loved it)
5:00 PM: Return to camp, BBQ dinner
Evening: Campfire, s'mores, star gazing

Sunday: Exploration Day

9:00 AM: Drive to Keswick
10:00 AM: Derwentwater walk (easy, stunning)
12:30 PM: Pub lunch in Keswick
2:00 PM: Browse local shops, get mint cake
3:30 PM: Head home
6:00 PM: Back in Birmingham
